This week in Year 2, we have been developing our instructional writing skills by writing clear instructions on how to make a delicious cheese wrap using imperative verbs. The children worked hard to sequence their steps carefully and are looking forward to putting their instructions into practice during our upcoming MasterChef session. We greatly enjoyed our session  with the visiting artist, we cut up lots of interesting shaped fruit and then used special lenses on our iPads to making fascinating pictures for our art exhibition. 

Finally we enjoyed a fantastic Sports Day, where every child showed great enthusiasm, determination and teamwork. It was wonderful to see everyone encouraging one another, demonstrating excellent team spirit and having lots of fun throughout the day. We are very proud of how well the children supported each other and celebrated one another’s successes.

Year 2 have been enjoying lots of exciting learning recently. After reading Clean Up! by Nathan Bryon, we took part in an experience day where we cleaned oil from sea creatures, sorted and recycled beach rubbish, and created posters about protecting our environment. This inspired our Literacy work, where we have been writing emotive narratives about helping our environment.

In Art, we have been working with clay to create our own detailed tiles, carefully adding patterns and textures to our designs.

We also enjoyed a fantastic morning of football to celebrate the start of the World Cup, showing great teamwork and enthusiasm throughout.

Year 2 have had a very exciting start to the Summer term.

We were amazed to discover a mysterious baby dragon egg had been delivered to our playground! We quickly wrote missing posters to help find the mummy dragon and kept a close eye on the school CCTV for any clues. Luckily, she returned to collect her baby; what a relief!

In Maths, we’ve been 2D shape experts, exploring sides and vertices and creating fantastic symmetrical patterns.

We also loved celebrating Earth Day! We learned about endangered animals and made adorable turtles using recycled materials.

In Year 2, we have been busy, budding scientists learning how plants and grow and exploring the differences between seeds and bulbs.

We loved celebrating World Book Day! The costumes were fantastic, and we were excited to meet a visiting author who inspired us with his stories and poems.

In English, we used our imaginations to write our own endings to The Marvellous Fluffy Squishy Itty Bitty. The children came up with some brilliant ideas!

In History, we have been learning about the Wright Brothers and how their determination and curiosity helped them invent the first successful aeroplane, changing travel forever.

Year 2 have been on a fact-finding mission to Asia this week! We started with our workshop learning how to do Chinese Dragon Dancing. It was so much fun using all the umbrellas and watching the dragon and lion dance together.  Next, we had a visit from Mr Mari to tell us all about Singapore so that we had lots of facts to use in our report on the country. 

Meanwhile, in Science, we have had great fun learning how to look after ourselves as we grow up. We looked at our school lunches to see if we had enough protein, fruit and vegetables in them. Then we thought about personal hygiene and practised brushing our teeth!! 

Year 2 truly dazzled in their Christmas performances this year. Every child was a superstar, singing beautifully, speaking clearly and performing with big smiles! 

In Literacy, we are becoming brilliant authors! Inspired by The Crow's Tale, the children planned and wrote their own version of the story. We were blown away with their wonderful imaginations- there were brave owls, colourful forests and heart-warming endings. 

In science, we've been busy investigating the habitats of bugs and insects. From searching Creature Corner to finding out about the three layers of grass that help insects find food, stay safe and survive. It has been a brilliant term full of learning, laughter and new discoveries. Well done year 2, we can't wait to see what adventures next term will bring.
