It's been a busy week back for Year 2! We are loving our new focus text in Literacy 'Clean up', which is all about looking after the environment. We learned about keeping the oceans and beaches clean and the impact it can have on animals. In maths, we have been exploring fractions. We have been finding halves, quarters and thirds. In science, we have been learning all about plants. We have reviewed the different parts of the plant and why they are important. We have also planted our own seeds! In computing we have been learning to compose our own music using 2 sequence on Purple Mash. I think we may have some DJs in the making! 

Year 2 have had a fantastic start to the summer term! On our first day back we discovered an egg in the playground. We looked at the school CCTV and discovered a dragon had come into school! We then used this experience to generate some amazing vocabulary and write our story 'George and the Dragon'.

In maths, we have begun our new topic of 2D shapes. We have been exploring their properties, such as vertices, sides and lines of symmetry. We have been learning how to sort them into groups and draw them correctly by plotting points.

A lovely few weeks in Year 2! We loved reading the story 'The marvellous Fluffy Squishy Itty Bitty' and created our own ending to the story for our independent write. We even got to taste baked treats to inspire our writing. Yum!  In art, we have been exploring texture and created our own collage using different objects. In Maths, we have explored money and have learnt all about the different coins, notes and their value. Pine class also had a visit from a parent who spoke to us all about Ramadan! 

A great end to the half-term for Year 2! We enjoyed National Story telling week and loved reading 'The journey'. We were inspired to write our own stories and shared them with Year 5! We loved coming to school in our pyjamas and shared our favourite stories with each other. This half-term, we have been developing our sewing skills. We designed, made and evaluated our very own pouch. For Children's Mental Health week, we listened to our guest speaker. We talked about the different feelings we have and what we do to try and regulate our own emotions. 

What a great start to the new year for Year 2! We have enjoyed learning all about China in Geography and decorated our own Chinese fans to inspire our new story, set in Ancient China 'The Magic Paintbrush'. In DT, we have been learning how to sew a running stitch. In Maths, we are learning how to measure. We have learnt about Metres and Centimetres and can now measure using a metre stick and ruler. 

Year 2 have been busy! We have been learning all about hibernation and came to school one day in our cosy clothes. We learnt about different hibernating animals and loved making our own dens to cosy down in for the Winter! We enjoyed exploring habitats and went on a nature walk to understand what lived in and around different trees. This week we visited the Church and took part in a 'Christmas Journey'. We learnt all about the Nativity story and took part in lots of activities.
