Numicon

Number order using Numicon.

Over the last two weeks we have been learning to put Numicon in order. Order means putting things in the right place using a rule. The rule we have been using is getting bigger by one each time. We played lots of games where we removed a piece of Numicon from the number line and the children had to guess which number was missing, they couldn't call out but had to show using their fingers. The children came up with ideas on how we could check this. Now that we are becoming more familiar with order, this week we have been following a different rule to order our Numicon. We have been looking at the smallest through to the biggest piece. The children worked in small groups to order their Numicon pieces. They talked about which one was the smallest and which one was the biggest and then checked this by holding the pieces of Numicon together to see which one was the smallest and biggest.
