  • Welcome back.

    This week the children have been busy settling into their new environment. They have enjoyed exploring all of the different areas, both inside and outside. They have particularly enjoyed exploring the role play area, mud kitchen, sand pit and mark making in the creative area.

  • Little City in Nursery

    Today in Nursery we had a visit from Little City. This was in celebration of all our hard work in Nursery this year. The children enjoyed being firefighters, vets, hair dressers, shop workers and many more.

    This week in Nursery we have been scientists, exploring space! We have been reading fiction and non-fiction books and talking about what space is.  We have taken part in lots of science activities and discussing and observing what happened. We made stargazers, created moon paintings and launched a rocket using a balloon.

  • Life cycles in Nursery

    In Nursery we have been learning about the life cycle of a butterfly. We started with five tiny caterpillars and watched them change over time into five very fat caterpillars! Slowly, each caterpillar transformed into a chrysalis. We watched and waited and after two weeks we had five beautiful butterflies! We then released them in the Nursery garden.

  • Caterpillar visitors in Nursery

    This week in Nursery we have had a special delivery of caterpillars! We are watching them closely to see how they change over time. 

    We have been finding out all about caterpillars and what they need to survive. We have made a caterpillar cafe and filled it with leaves for them to eat. 

    The children have been busy making caterpillar leaves using paint.

  • The secret garden in Nursery

    This week in Nursery we have been exploring our new topic 'The secret garden'. 

    We went on a walk around the school to observe how the plants are growing and changing. We made a collage using these found natural materials. 

    We have also been reading the story 'Jaspers Beanstalk'. We have been learning about the life cycle of a bean and what plants need to grow. We then planted our own bean seeds and can't wait to see what happens to them!

    The Nursery children had a great trip to Church Farm Ardeley. We saw pigs and piglets, sheep, cows, rabbits and many more. We were also very lucky to all have the chance to pet the lambs! The children also made their own bug hotels.
    Thank you to all the parents and family members who helped on the day it was very much appreciated by all the staff and children.
    We are all very proud of the children and how sensible they were.

    This week in Nursery we have been looking for signs of spring all around us. Whilst on our wellie walk, we noticed blossom growing on the trees, daffodils and buds on the plants. Down in creature corner, the children were very excited to find birds making a nest in the tree.

  • Ducks in Nursery

    Over the last few weeks in Nursery we have been busy looking after five ducklings. 

    The ducklings arrived as five eggs and we were lucky enough to watch them hatch. We named them Daisy, Dave, Darren, Donald and Elson (born on Mrs Elson's birthday). 

    We have been learning about the life cycle of a duck and it has great to see how they have grown and changed. 

    The children were very excited to watch the ducks swim in a paddling pool for the very first time.

    The ducks are now enjoying their time back on the farm.

  • Exploring capacity in Nursery

    This week in Nursery we have been exploring capacity. We have talked about how capacity is measuring how much liquid a container can hold. We used the vocabulary 'empty', 'full' and 'half full' to describe how much liquid is in a container. The children explored both the inside and outside water trays, using a variety of different containers. The children used cups, bottles, tubes and yogurt pots to fill the containers so that they were 'half full' and 'full' and were challenged to use the vocabulary when doing this.

  • Firefighters in Nursery

    This week in Nursery we have been learning about firefighters and their jobs. We discussed fire safety and how to keep ourselves safe around fire. We all walked down to creature corner and used wooden sticks to create a campfire in the fire pit. We had a snack of marshmallows and cookies and talked about what we could hear, see and smell whilst sitting around the fire. We were very proud of how safe and sensible the children were whilst there.
