Latest news in Year 1
It's been a very busy last couple of weeks of Year 1
On Friday 17th July, Year 1 classrooms turned into bustling kitchens for Master Chef Day, where the children became culinary artists and made their own fruit smoothies! This hands-on activity was the perfect blend of design technology, sensory exploration, and practical maths.
Children chose from strawberries, bananas, blueberries, and mangoes, discussing the vibrant colours and health benefits. They practised fine motor skills by safely slicing soft fruits using child-friendly knives. What an incredible, milestone-filled year it has been in Year 1!
Phonics Champions: Children mastered a range of digraphs & trigraphs blending confidently and successfully completed their Phonics Screening Check.
Creative Writers: They progressed from simple words to writing full, independent sentences using full stops capital letters, connectives and adjectives.
Maths Wizards: Children can count confidently up to 100, complete mental arithmetic quickly, and master addition and subtraction to 20.
We could not have done this without your unwavering partnership, encouragement, and support at home. Thank you for reading with your children every night, helping with homework, and cheering them on at every school event. Have a wonderful, safe, and restful summer holiday!
