Latest news in Year 1.

We have had a brilliant start to the Summer Term in Year 1 and the children have come back ready and eager to learn!
This half term, our exciting new topic is “Walk the Plank!” where we are diving into the world of pirates. The children have begun exploring this theme by writing true facts about pirates, developing their confidence in using simple sentences and sharing their ideas.
In Maths, we are focusing on solving worded problems, encouraging the children to think carefully, use key vocabulary and explain their reasoning. We are really impressed with how they are tackling these challenges with growing independence.
In Science, the children have become enthusiastic “plant detectives”, exploring different plants, identifying their features and learning what they need to grow and stay healthy. It has been wonderful to see their curiosity in action!
We have also started learning about explorers from the past, discovering how people travelled the world and made important discoveries. The children are already asking fantastic questions and making great connections.
As part of Earth Day, we spent time thinking about how we can all take better care of our world. The children shared thoughtful ideas about protecting the environment and making positive choices in their everyday lives.
