Over the last 2 weeks in year 3, we have continued our science topic about plants by learning about insect and wind pollination. This involved using magnifying glasses to inspect flowers up close! We developed this learning further during science day, where we created our own seeds and held them in front of fans to investigate wind dispersal. In DT, we used our maths knowledge of 3D shapes to create nets to help us build our castles. We also enjoyed a very busy sports week, full of a range of activities including netball, cricket, martial arts, dance, and circus skills! It was lots of fun to practice our skills, develop our team work, and try new things.  

Year 3 have been busy continuing our fractions topic, learning how to compare, order, add and subtract different fractions. In Literacy, we created pieces of work related to our other learning, including a brochure to explain what plants need to grow (linking to our science topic of plants) and a diary entry of a Victorian child (linking to our history topic of how children's lives have changed). In art, we finished creating our abstract sculptures inspired by playgrounds. Our focus in PSHE has been on careers and we discussed the jobs we might like to do in the future. 

Since returning from the Easter break, Year 3 have been extremely busy! We all participated in a rugby festival where we learnt some great skills. We have also thought about how we can protect our planet and created a pledge to celebrate Earth Day. In art, we started a new 3D sculpture topic. We used cardboard to make different structures inspired by playgrounds. 

We started our new geography topic of volcanoes by looking at the different layers of the Earth. We made our own Earth models with plasticine making sure you could clearly see the different layers. In maths, we have been exploring money. We have worked hard to calculate totals and change. To celebrate World Book Day, we created our own reading rivers showing the journey of our love of books. We ended the week with a special visit from the ducklings. 

Last week, we took part in a Roman Workshop. We went around the hall and completed different activities based around items that were used in Roman Britain. These activities included making ink, clay pots, wax tablets, mosaics and a brooch. We also learnt how to fight as a Roman solider. In the afternoon, we were archaeologists and discovered some old Roman artefacts. We made a little museum to display these artefacts. 

Over the past 2 weeks, Year 3 have been very busy. We worked hard in DT to plan, make and taste rock cakes. They were delicious! We have also successfully completed creating our pneumatic toys. We ended this week by singing beautifully at the church and enjoying a trip to the pantomime to see Dick Whittington and his cat.
