Year 2 have been busy and enthusiastic learners over the past few weeks. In English, we had a great time tasting delicious Chinese foods to inspire our poetry writing about strange food combinations based on a poem by Valerie Bloom. The children came up with some adventurous and imaginative ideas, from chocolate sushi to ice-cream and noodle soup.

In Maths, we have been learning how to measure and compare the mass of different objects. We have been using grams and kilograms and practising reading scales carefully.

In Science, we have been learning all about how to keep ourselves heathy. We discussed good hygiene habits and why they were important and had a go at brushing teeth, washing dishes, and brushing hair.

Year 2 have been on a fact-finding mission to Asia this week! We started with our workshop learning how to do Chinese Dragon Dancing. It was so much fun using all the umbrellas and watching the dragon and lion dance together.  Next, we had a visit from Mr Mari to tell us all about Singapore so that we had lots of facts to use in our report on the country.

Meanwhile, in Science, we have had great fun learning how to look after ourselves as we grow up. We looked at our school lunches to see if we had enough protein, fruit and vegetables in them. Then we thought about personal hygiene and practised brushing our teeth!!

Year 2 truly dazzled in their Christmas performances this year. Every child was a superstar, singing beautifully, speaking clearly and performing with big smiles!

In Literacy, we are becoming brilliant authors! Inspired by The Crow's Tale, the children planned and wrote their own version of the story. We were blown away with their wonderful imaginations- there were brave owls, colourful forests and heart-warming endings.

In science, we've been busy investigating the habitats of bugs and insects. From searching Creature Corner to finding out about the three layers of grass that help insects find food, stay safe and survive. It has been a brilliant term full of learning, laughter and new discoveries. Well done year 2, we can't wait to see what adventures next term will bring.

Year 2 have had a wonderful start to their Christmas activities. We went on a trip to St Peters Church where we heard the story of the Christmas Journey. We have been practising our performance for our Christmas Show and are excited to show our parents next! In literacy, we have started our new story A Crows Tale and started off by creating our own colourful crows. As the week goes on, we will find out how he lost his colours.

Year 2 have had so much fun starting their new topic, Hibernating Animals. We had a visit from Safari Stu and were brave enough to hold lots of creatures. We then had a day hibernating where we learnt lots about how animals prepare for the winter.  Our busy weeks continued with a visit from author Martin Impey to learn about his book Flo of the Somme. We dressed up in outfits that people would have worn during the world wars which helped us prepare for Remembrance Day.

The Year 2 team would like to say a huge thank you to all the parents, grandparents and adults who attended our Fantastic Finish on Wednesday. The children loved singing their song to you and watching the re-enactment of the Great Fire of London. We can't wait to show you the paintings we make next week with the prints you created together. This week, we travelled back in time to discover what school was like in the past. The children took part in a very special History lesson with their own (and very 'strict') old-fashioned teacher, writing on chalk slates and playing with traditional wooden toys. In science, we have been very busy exploring materials; investigating which types of balls bounce the highest and ensuring we carry out a fair test.

Year 2 have been very busy exploring our exciting topic: The Great Fire of London. We gathered around a campfire to toast marshmallows, built Tudor houses in DT, and baked bread just like Thomas Farriner in his bakery on Puddling Lane. In Literacy, We have been writing diary entries just like Samuel Pepys to order the events of the great fire. As part of National Poetry Week, we explored the poem 'My Magic Telescope' by Sean Taylor. Inspired by the poem, we made our own telescopes and used our imaginations to write poems about the magical things we could see through them.

It's been an exciting few weeks full of creativity, imagination and discovery for Year 2!
