The children in Year 2 have settled into the new school year wonderfully and have been an absolute delight! In Literacy, they have been enjoying writing their own stories inspired by The Owl Who Was Afraid of The Dark, showing great imagination and creativity. Our new topic on The Great Fire of London has really captured their interest too - they already know lots of fascinating facts and can sing and sign to the Great Fire of London song. In DT, we've been exploring structures in preparation for creating our own Tudor houses, and in science we've been investigating materials and their properties. It's been a brilliant start to the year.

Wow, what a wonderful few weeks for year 2! We have been very busy with sports week where we developed lots of new skills and tried different sports! We loved learning how to play flag football and basketball! In Art, we have been exploring clay and how to use it to make a sculpture. We have also been preparing for our artist visit and learned about pop art! This week we had sports day and had lots of fun taking part in all the activities! It was lovely to watch the children try their best, showing resilience and respecting their peers by cheering them on all the way. We were also visited by MIND Hertfordshire, who came to talk to us about our feelings and emotions. They introduced us to Ziggy the puppet who talked to us about this. 

What a few weeks we have had in Year 2! 

We had a fantastic trip to Mountfitchet Castle and experienced what life was like years ago. We enjoyed learning about knights and climbing up the watch towers. This has inspired our writing!

 We also had a knights, kings and queens day, where we went to school dressed up. We learned how to sword fight, built catapults and met a real-life dragon! 

We also celebrated VE Day and enjoyed a street party in the playground. We listened to music and enjoyed the party food! 

Thank you to all the parents who joined us for our fantastic finish! We made our moving monsters and evaluated our final product. 

Wow what a few weeks we have had. 

We have loved learning and writing about the Titanic. We have been writing poetry about the Titanic's journey. We worked in teams to try to save the bear from the ice, we couldn't believe how cold the ice was on our hands! 

We celebrated Red Nose Day and enjoyed making our Red Nose Day cake! 

In Maths we have been learning about money. We have enjoyed learning about the value of different coins and applying our new knowledge to solve tricky problems. 

What a great first two weeks back for Year 2. We have enjoyed exploring colour in Art and created our own colour wheels with paint. We explored primary and secondary colours and had a go mixing paint. In Science we have been learning about changes. We even had a special visit from the nursery ducklings and discussed where they came from and how they will change. In writing we have been creating our own poems based on 'If I were in charge of the world'. We loved performing our poems to our friends! 

Wow what a great few weeks we have had in Year 2! We have enjoyed learning more about China, how it compares to where we live and all about Lunar New Year. We took part in a New year celebration where we learnt a traditional Chinese dance and a dragon walk.

In writing we have  been learning about Singapore and how to inform our audience about it. We hope we will apply these new skills in our independent write, where we will be writing all about China! Thank you to Mr Mari, who visited our classrooms and told us all about his times in Singapore! In Science, we have been learning about being healthy. We had a great session learning how to keep our bodies clean.
