In maths we have begun our new topic on Money. We have been learning to add notes and coins becoming expert shoppers! In PE we have been enjoying boxercise using real boxing gloves and pads to practice our moves. 

Finally in Science we have begun an experiment, we know that plants need water, soil and light to grow, but what happens if we take these away? We have planted some cress and are going to be watching them grow over the next few weeks to see what happens, so far the ones without water haven't grown at all! 

We loved celebrating World Book Day! The costumes were fantastic, and we were excited to meet a visiting author who inspired us with his stories and poems.

In English, we used our imaginations to write our own endings to The Marvellous Fluffy Squishy Itty Bitty. The children came up with some brilliant ideas!

In History, we have been learning about the Wright Brothers and how their determination and curiosity helped them invent the first successful aeroplane, changing travel forever.

In Maths, we have been learning how to measure and compare the mass of different objects. We have been using grams and kilograms and practising reading scales carefully. 

In Science, we have been learning all about how to keep ourselves heathy. We discussed good hygiene habits and why they were important and had a go at brushing teeth, washing dishes, and brushing hair. 

Meanwhile, in Science, we have had great fun learning how to look after ourselves as we grow up. We looked at our school lunches to see if we had enough protein, fruit and vegetables in them. Then we thought about personal hygiene and practised brushing our teeth!! 

In Literacy, we are becoming brilliant authors! Inspired by The Crow's Tale, the children planned and wrote their own version of the story. We were blown away with their wonderful imaginations- there were brave owls, colourful forests and heart-warming endings. 

In science, we've been busy investigating the habitats of bugs and insects. From searching Creature Corner to finding out about the three layers of grass that help insects find food, stay safe and survive. It has been a brilliant term full of learning, laughter and new discoveries. Well done year 2, we can't wait to see what adventures next term will bring. 

It's been an exciting few weeks full of creativity, imagination and discovery for Year 2!

We had a fantastic trip to Mountfitchet Castle and experienced what life was like years ago. We enjoyed learning about knights and climbing up the watch towers. This has inspired our writing!

 We also had a knights, kings and queens day, where we went to school dressed up. We learned how to sword fight, built catapults and met a real-life dragon! 

We also celebrated VE Day and enjoyed a street party in the playground. We listened to music and enjoyed the party food! 

Thank you to all the parents who joined us for our fantastic finish! We made our moving monsters and evaluated our final product. 

In maths, we have begun our new topic of 2D shapes. We have been exploring their properties, such as vertices, sides and lines of symmetry. We have been learning how to sort them into groups and draw them correctly by plotting points.

We have loved learning and writing about the Titanic. We have been writing poetry about the Titanic's journey. We worked in teams to try to save the bear from the ice, we couldn't believe how cold the ice was on our hands! 

We celebrated Red Nose Day and enjoyed making our Red Nose Day cake! 

In Maths we have been learning about money. We have enjoyed learning about the value of different coins and applying our new knowledge to solve tricky problems. 

In writing we have  been learning about Singapore and how to inform our audience about it. We hope we will apply these new skills in our independent write, where we will be writing all about China! Thank you to Mr Mari, who visited our classrooms and told us all about his times in Singapore! In Science, we have been learning about being healthy. We had a great session learning how to keep our bodies clean. 

We have taken part in different activities for special occasions, such as remembrance day. We learned why this date was important and made poppies, by using mixed media. 

We also had a special visit from the author M.P Robertson. He read some of his stories to us and taught us how to illustrate a dragon. We had so much fun! 

We have been celebrating Black History Month and we have been learning about significant people in history, including Kathryn Johnson and Leland Melvin. 

In Science, we have enjoyed conducting experiments to explore the properties of materials. We investigated which ball would bounce the highest and worked in teams to find out! 

We have also been exploring 2d shapes in Maths and have especially enjoyed finding lines of symmetry! 

We have been raising money for Children in Need. We dressed up in spots and Pudsey wear and joined the Joe Wicks challenge! 

We were also visited this week by No Outsiders who spoke to us about treating others kindly and celebrating differences. 

We asked lots of questions and learnt about how they adapt to survive in the wild. At Roebuck we are Scientists.
