Dinners & Milk

Our school meals are provided by Hertfordshire Catering Limited (HCL) and offer a healthy, balanced meal. Menus are offered on a cycle and a hot meal, vegetarian option, sandwiches and jacket potatoes are offered daily. There are also regular themed meal days to celebrate special events such as World Book Day or Chinese New Year.

Children can have hot dinners or packed lunch on a weekly basis. If you require a change in lunch arrangements you must inform the office.  Please ensure that payment for hot dinners is paid through Gateway or School Grid (direct debit) and cash can be paid to the school office. All dinner accounts are to be kept in credit.

Packed Lunches

Children may bring a packed lunch to school. This should be clearly labelled with your child’s name and class in a secure container, not a plastic bag.  In line with our healthy schools policy please try to ensure that you provide your child with a healthy packed lunch.  Please ensure that the contents of the lunch box do not include any glass bottles, cans, thermos flasks, hot liquids, fizzy drinks, nut products and sweets, all of which are not allowed for safety reasons. We also request that items such as grapes and hot dog sausages are cut into small pieces to prevent choking hazards. Energy drinks are NOT allowed.  As part of our ongoing commitment to the environment we recommend that you use insulated lunch boxes and reusable plastic containers.

The lunch-boxes will be deposited in the classroom on the year group lunch box trolley at the beginning of the day and collected as the children go to the dining-room.

So that the children can be properly accounted for, those having a packed lunch are entered on the dinner-register.

We do ask for a minimum of a week’s notice if children are changing from School Meals to Packed Lunches, or vice-versa.

Free School Meals

All children in Reception and KS1 are entitled to free school meals. However, it is important that if you qualify for free school meals that you apply as school obtains additional funding. Some older pupils will be eligible for Free School Meals based on individual circumstances. Please contact the school where we can provide support in completing the form.

Food Information Regulation Allergen Labelling

Please contact the school office and make an appointment if you would like to discuss any allergen issues your child may have.

Playtime Snacks

We encourage the children to eat a fruit or vegetable as a mid-morning snack. This is provided free of charge through the Government’s School Fruit and Vegetable Scheme for all children from Nursery to Year 2. We ask that children in Key Stage 2 are provided with either dried or fresh fruit or vegetables to be eaten after morning break.

There is fresh drinking water available in all classrooms. Water bottles can be purchased for a small price from the main school office.

School Milk

Children are provided with a free carton of milk to drink each day providing their family are in receipt of Free School Meals (see Pupil Premium). This does not include Universal Free School Meals for Reception to Year 2. If a child is not entitled to free milk, parents may choose to pay for their child to have a carton of milk. Please speak to the Office team for further information. All payments must be made in advance.
